I started to trudge slowly back into training for my target 42K – hopefully by December of this year.
I started training only last July 16, and I was able to do 5K runs for until July 22.
It was supposed to be a 10K race for Sunday, which turned into a 21K. This uneventful push for a way longer distance is courtesy of my best friend Jaimie. After I said no and cursed a bit under my breath with her persistence, I succumbed to her
For this morning’s Rexona Run, I left it all up to “batman”, “spiderman” and a slew of my favorite saints as well.
Since this is my sort of “comeback race” after one year of locking myself up in the loony bin, I was nervous and excited.
Do you know that butterfly feeling in your stomach, na gusto ma ma-poo-poo at ma-ihi at the same time? That was my feeling this morning.
Pardon for non-Filipino readers and for those who might get offended with my Tagalog puns every so often for my post today. Na-miss ko talaga tumakbo. Sa akin kasi, I don’t run to be in, I run to have fun. And I am sure this kind of thinking applies to most runners out there na katulad ko.
My times for my 5K runs from July 16 to 22, played from 33mins to 40mins. Since, I was just starting again. It was a bit of a surprise for me, that I was feeling awesome up until the 16K mark. After that, I started to get cramps in both my calves. Pero, I still tried to push myself. I have to admit that I am a bit competitive with myself. And after seeing the upper extremity bilateral amputee running like the wind up front. Feeling ko, “Grabe G, wala kang karapatan mag-reklamo. WALA.” Imagine this guy running the 21K with no hands, can you imagine how he hydrates at each water station? Sobrang hanga ko sa kanya.
I did a lot of run-walk after 17K. I realized that, I am getting old. And just do my best to finish the 21K. I was elated to find out that my official time is 2:32:14. May asim pa pala ako muscles ko!
Since, this is my first time in a longtime to race again. Here are thoughts in my head at certain kilometer marks:
15K – Medyo namimintig yata right calf ko.
Saan kaya kami kakain?
20.4K – Yes! Nakikita ko na finishline! Yahoo!
Oh, and do you know the other reason why I love running races? It’s because of…
Awesome Running Friends…
