It was supposed to be just a 5K run, which turned into an almost 2 hour 10K run-walk-photo-op at last Sunday’s XTERRA Vaseline Men Pang Rave Run held over at the wonderful and breezy trails of Timberland Heights.
With the only intention of having fun, I used my trail hydration pack and armed with my iPhone covered with the sturdy Otterbox – I was raring to have pure fun on the trails. And what fun we had even if the trail turned really STEEP and SLIPPERY sometimes.
It was my first time to set foot in Timberland Heights. And I was pretty stoked to know that such a place exists less than hour from my place. I overestimated the time, and we were at the venue at 5:10AM – even if the gunstart for the 10K was at 6:00AM.
I have not run or hiked on trails for a long time. The last trail run I did was in the grounds of Sacobia in 2009 and the last mountain that I ever set foot on was Mt. Ginoog in Cagayan De Oro in 2001. Albeit, I loved the buzz that both the trail and trail warriors emit.
It was a fine laid back vibe and the wherever I pointed my phone for a shot – I either got a smile, a thumbs up or a wave!
Gunstart started promptly at 6:00AM, with a small contingent of runners that are just right to go through the trails of Timberland without having that much impact in the environment. We were happily at the tail end and absorbing what nature has to offer throughout the 10K.
There was 5 water stations with lots of water and Gatorade throughout the 10K. My only question was, “HOW DID THEY BRING ALL THAT UP IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE?”
For now, I will let the pictures I took along the way do the talking…
If you don’t mind the grit, the grime and the happy and almost hippie-like vibe of a trail run or race. You must definitely not miss the upcoming Xterra Trail Run in Cebu this coming March 17, 2012 and the Putik Pare slated to happen this November 2012! Visit Xterra Philippines here for more details.
This was a trail run with a local vibe with perks of a big running event! Joining the XTERRA Vaseline Men Pang Rave Run was the best way to cap off the month of February 2012!
Happy Running everyone!
